Outreach Assistant (Part-Time)
Reports to Outreach Coordinator
Purpose: Assist Outreach Coordinator with activities and events of Mission.
Classification: Part-time, Seasonal (April – December)
Pay Rate: $10/Hour, 20 – 25 Hours/Week
Children’s Ministry and Camp Bennett (40%)
- Serve as team member to successfully recruit, solicit and register children for annual summer camp season.
- Support Outreach Department in coordinating efforts for annual Children’s events (Back to School, Summer Camp, Christmas Bag programs).
- Develop relationships with the families of children we serve:
o Work with families to obtain applications for Camp.
o Oversee the planning of events oriented around children – coordinate with the communications Department regarding families receiving services.
- Assist with camp registration.
- Opening all mail – pull parent files, child camp folder and administer proper filing of applications.
- Retrieve phone messages and return phone calls.
- Input data into HEART, mailing of letters, as needed.
- Prepare luggage tags on Friday for Monday’s registration.
- Set up registration tables, nurse stations and luggage stations.
- Help check-in children on Monday and check-out on Friday.
- Develop overviews that include final numbers, observations and recommendations.
- Track children who receive bags into spread sheet and HEART database after the event.
- Create backpacks for children who were not sponsored, as needed.
- Assist in Operation Back Pack with data entry.
Administrative Responsibilities (40%)
· Maintains records, correspondence and statistics regarding outreach programs.
· Responds, over the phone and in writing, to requests for information from the community regarding outreach programs.
· Assist in writing reports regarding current and proposed outreach programs, and recommendations for proposed outreach activities and programs.
· Assist Outreach Coordinator with activities and engagements involving community.
· Collaborate with Outreach Coordinator to sponsor community engagement activities.
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with people in other community organizations and faith institutions.
Other Duties (20%)
· Food Depot (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday – two week a month)
· Sign clients in.
· Help lead the program when necessary (music, prayer, read scripture, etc.)
· Assist in distributing food bags.
· Distribute calendars and pertinent information.
· Represent the Mission at church events and other outreach functions.
· Assist the communications department as appropriate.
· Organize registration, mass mailing on donors and parent packets.
· Coordinate mass letter mailings as needed.
Requirements
- High-School Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Database Management.
- High-level organizational skills.
- Experience with filing and bulk mailings.
- Enjoys projects focused on children.
- Ability to utilize the internet for research.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with services for families in DC.
- Active member of a local, evangelical church.
