My Testimony…by Michaelangelo Payne I came to Central Union Mission on November 20, 2009, after being broken and homeless from drug use and major depression. Having suicidal thoughts I was involuntary committed to a Hospital. Once I arrived here I spoke to Darion Carter who assigned Allen Evans to me for guidance. From the time I walked in and sat down I started praising and thanking God for his deliverance. From my first night, I promised God to repay Him for his kindness by bowing every night on my knees to thank Him for everything he would now place in my life, the good and the bad. I promised to study and apply his word to my life. I was told so much about the staff here by other people. People seemed to be working on something so I wanted to be proactive in my situation by doing my part to please God. God turned my selfish spirit into that of one wanting to serve as I was in fellowship with Mrs. Shirley Johnson, Pastor David Howard, Pastor James Lewis, Pastor Rutherford Cook and Pastor Jones. I started to desire what they had, which was the hope only found in Jesus Christ. I knew about Jesus, but my relationship with him always had conditions and selfishness involved. These Ministers held me accountable. They were totally consistent never wavering. Then, I met Robert Taylor who talked to me about dealing with God on his terms, not mine. He told me that he felt good about my brokenness, because if I was not broken, I would not need the Lord’s help. In December, I was asked by Pastor Howard to volunteer with the Hispanic Ministry he introduced me to Pastor Jorge De Casanova and Ms. Maria Rodriguez. From the moment I started serving, God revealed to me that this is what it was all about. “Him and not Me.” He gave me the desire to serve Him through others. I have never felt as complete in my entire life. I always would ask to help around here, but God put me at the Hispanic Ministry to show me the extent of his love for everyone. As time has gone on, I’ve been mentored by various members of the Mission staff. Pastor Lewis even invited me to fellowship with his family on Sundays. The Central Union Mission family from Mr. David Treadwell all the way to the men at the front desk have shown me what Christians are suppose to be working on, which is selflessness through love and service. I received my ID, my insurance, a doctor, my Birth Certificate, Social Security Card and so much more. I have through the Grace of God found favor with you all and believe that God has placed me here to complete the work he had started in me years ago. I want to go to school for Radiology in the future and trust God for this. I would like to also study Theology, lastly besides being totally blessed to be apart of the staff, now I feel I have the Greatest team of Ministers praying, guiding and encouraging me in the Lord so I try to encourage others to become vulnerable and trust God to work everything out for them.
